Soul singer Sharon Jones has died at the age of 60 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
The Georgia-born star was diagnosed with bile duct cancer in 2013 and underwent surgery. The diagnosis with later changed to pancreatic cancer and she received further treatment.
Despite her illness, Jones kept working and performing and was the subject of a documentary, Miss Sharon Jones which was released in 2015.
News of her death was confirmed in a statement on her official website.
It read: "We are deeply saddened to announce that Sharon Jones has passed away after a heroic battle against pancreatic cancer. She was surrounded by her loved ones, including the Dap-Kings.
"Thank you for your prayers and thoughts during this difficult time."
Jones came to fame later in life with the formation of the funk and soup group The Dap-Kings. Their debut album, Dap-Dippin' With Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings, was released in 2002 when she was 46.
Six more albums followed, including the Grammy-nominated Give the People What They Want in 2014.
The singer, known for her dynamic stage shows, has collaborated with stars such as Lou Reed, Phish and Michael Buble during her career.
She most recently guest starred in the Netflix and Marvel TV show Luke Cage as a performer on stage at a night club.
Since the news of her death broke, tributes have been pouring in on Twitter.
