The Walking Dead has been renewed for season 8

Season 7 has yet to start but already AMC has ordered an 8th season of the zombie death-fest that is The Walking Dead.

Fans are eager to see the resolution of the season six cliff-hanger, when the show's latest baddie Negan, played by former The Good Wife star, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, was about to murder a member of Rick's crew.

AMC president Charlie Collier announced the news by borrowing a phrase from Negan.  "Eeny, meeny, miny, more," he said before praising one and all, including the show's fans.

"What a joy to partner with Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple and some of the hardest-working people in television to bring The Walking Dead to the fans. And, most important, thanks to those fans for breathing life into this remarkable series right along with us."

Season 8 of the comic book adaptation will consist of the show's now usual number of 16 episodes and will launch this time next year 2017 with the series’ 100th episode.

The Walking Dead‘s seventh season begins Stateside next Sunday. Satellite channel Fox UK will broadcast it first on this side of the Atlantic, beginning next Monday October 24.
