Fair City star Tony Tormey has played down fans' hopes of a happy ending for his Carrigstown Casanova Paul and long-suffering wife Niamh.
With fans gripped in recent weeks by Paul's affair with latest flame Hayley, Tormey was a guest on The Ray D'Arcy Show on RTÉ One on Saturday night, where he was joined by co-stars Rebecca Grimes, who plays Hayley; and Bryan Murray, who plays Bob.
When asked by the host about future storylines involving the Paul-Niamh-Hayley love triangle, Tormey said he "would be fired" if he gave anything away.
"Well here's a general question for you," said D'Arcy. "Do you think Paul and Niamh will ever be happy?"

"My mother hopes they're going to be happy!" Tormey replied. "But if they're going to be happy then it's going to be very boring, isn't it?
"You don't want happy couples going, 'Do you want a cup of tea?' or 'Are you alright there?'. There has to be a little devilment here, there and everywhere."

"That's where I come in!" laughed Grimes, who revealed that her mother Bev had actually predicted the affair between Hayley and Paul.
"It's not a shocker, really, is it?" she laughed, to which co-star Tormey replied: "It was a shock to me, actually!"

When asked how it felt to watch her first on-screen kiss with Tormey again, Grimes said: "It's funny. It looks very steamy there but what you don't see is between the takes and we're saying, 'Did you do anything nice for the weekend?' or 'What are you getting for your lunch?'"
