It was an eventful start to the new season of The Late Late Show on Friday night on RTÉ One – and the craic continued with a post-show bash in Dublin nightspot Copper Face Jacks.

Boxer Michael Conlan, rowers Gary and Paul O'Donovan, sailor Annalise Murphy and comedian Al Porter all headed to Coppers with Ryan Tubridy.

They toasted their appearance on the show with some champagne which Gary O'Donovan gave a good shake as he opened it!

And here's when the party started with the lads suggesting that it was fellow Olympic hero Analise Murphy that was the ringleader for the night's shenanigans.

On the show itself, the various Olympians received a great reception from the audience with standing ovations all round.

Belfast man Conlan confirmed that he won't be representing Ireland next time around after his controversial time in Rio, which saw him miss out on a medal after a widely discredited decision by judges.

Asked by host Tubridy if he was going to return for the Tokyo Olympics, Conlan said: "I wouldn't waste another four years of my life.

"I'm in talks at the minute with a few people, I have got a lot of offers and that's all I can more or less say for the minute."

When pressed that the answer is he is going professional, Conlan replied: "Yeah, 100 per cent."

He added that the bitter experience in Rio would push him on in his professional career, saying that his quarter-final exit "could be a blessing. That it has happened the way it did.

"It will be a driving force for me in my career. It will be the catalyst for me being a multi-weight world champion and probably Ireland's greatest fighter ever."

Before the show, Conlan met up with Finn McManus, the five-year-old boy who offered his school medal to the boxer after that controversial exit at Rio.

Finn wrote a letter to Conlan telling him he was a winner regardless of what happened at the Olympics.

The pair met before The Late Late Show went on air and posed for a photo together as the Belfast boxer took Finn up on his offer and also presented the youngster with a pair of boxing gloves.

Another highlight of the first show in the new season was the band Picture This making their Late Late debut.  Jimmy Rainsford and Ryan Hennessy performed their smash hit about summer love Take My Hand.

Meanwhile Comedian Al Porter- fresh from his nomination for a Best Comedy Show award at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards -  summed up the Irish psyche in under a minute and in his own inimitable way.
