Banks' account suspended after latest Twitter tirade

Banks - Another week, another controversy
Banks - Another week, another controversy

Rapper Azealia Banks' Twitter account has been suspended after she posted highly derogatory tweets about former One Direction singer-turned-solo star Zayn Malik.

The latest controversy involving the American rapper began when Banks claimed that Malik's video for new track Like I Would copied her. She added that she thought the British singer was "a cutie pie".

In an Instagram post, Banks accused Malik of copying her

When Malik tweeted, "I see you reaching but I don't care" and added "my @'s too good for you", Banks assumed he was talking about her.

Banks then sent abusive tweets to Malik, with one saying he was only in One Direction "to draw brown attention".

Malik responded: "@AZEALIABANKS why you been saying nasty things about me? I wasn't talking about you lol?"

Following her comments, Rinse FM, the organisers of July's Born and Bred festival in London, cancelled Banks' headline slot, writing: "Rinse Born & Bred is a celebration of rave culture and has been created for everyone. We celebrate inclusivity and equality."

There had been calls for Banks to be suspended from Twitter after her comments about Malik

During Banks' latest barrage she also turned on teenage Disney star Skai Jackson who had criticised what she had written about Malik.

As the controversy raged, Banks posted: "Big apologies to anyone who was offended by any of the things I said. Not sorry I said it. But sorry for the way I made people feel."

Banks subsequently deleted that tweet and others and wrote: "I said what I said to Zayn because I was angry. He felt as if he was too good to acknowledge me yet not to [sic] good to copy my creativity."

She continued: "I had to remind him that were [sic] both in the same boat in this industry and people of color. By reminding him that no matter what you may think of yourself. The world still sees you as "other". As they see me."

Later Banks said she was "resisting the urge to say loads more terrible things to each and every one of u's".

She added that she was "insanely f****** talented and have already lowered myself to the levels of ppl who don't even deserve to share the same".

Banks - Latest outburst continues a long line of controversies

Banks has previously taken aim at singers including Iggy Azalea, Rita Ora and Lily Allen. In March she was forced to apologise after former US politician Sarah Palin threatened to sue her over comments she made about her on social media.
