Ryan Reynolds has said he "hopped ship a hundred thousand times" in the eleven year period it took to make Deadpool and exclusively told TEN it has been "the best and worst" relationship he's ever had.
The 39-year-old Canadian actor, who reprises his role as the 'Merc with a Mouth' from 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine in the eagerly-awaited movie, joked he was so traumatised from the long-in-development project that he jumped into DC Comics’ 2011 movie flop, Green Lantern.
"I hopped ship a hundred thousand times over the course of eleven years. I'm not kidding you," he told TEN. "I hopped right into Green Lantern. You can't say you are hopping ship more definitively than that. It was very frustrating!"
"Deadpool has been the best and worst relationship that I've ever been in. It's been eleven long years trying to get it made and it took what would appear to be leaked test footage also known as an 'Act of God' to get the movie made - and here we are," he said.

Reynolds, who is also one of the film's producers, said the leaked test footage during Comic Con in 2014 which went viral, was an "Act of God" and made the iconic character more challenging to play.
"You feel an absolute responsibility. I mean if you are given the shot that you want for eleven years, you're not going to waste it. Nobody is a bigger Deadpool fan than me. I feel like he is an alter ego for me."
Deadpool has become a fan favourite in the Marvel Comics' franchise
The comic book the film is based on is centred on a former Special Forces operative turned mercenary (Reynolds) who is subjected to a rogue experiment that results in him having accelerated healing ability.
Silicon Valley star T.J. Miller stars in the movie as Weasel, Deadpool's friend and information broker, and he said he jumped at the chance to feature in a movie alongside Reynolds.
"I knew Anna Faris who he [Reynolds] had worked with [in 2005's Just Friends] and I had heard that he was very very funny and somewhat nice and a good improviser - and he lived up to two of those," he joked. "He's so quick on his feet and I'm an improviser by trade so we did 50/50. The script is so good that a lot of it got in but we definitely improvised."

With all of the slick action-packed sequences and mind-blowing martial arts stunts, TEN imagined that there may have been some minor injuries on set - but suffering from a broken heart was not something we expected to hear about!
"I tried to kiss Ryan goodbye and plant a kiss on the cheek and he had already left so I fell forward and chipped my tooth," he said pointing to his teeth.
"He should be so lucky," Reynolds laughed.
