The Comic Strip return to satirise the phone-tapping scandal in the UK tabloid press on Gold; 1916 Seachtar na Cásca continues on TG4; Operation Transformation is on RTÉ One - here's our top telly for tonight
The Comic Strip Presents . . . Red Top, Gold, 10.00pm
Back in the eighties, British comedy group The Comic Strip created such memorable shows as their Famous Five satire Five Go Mad on Mescalin and Arthur Scargill send-up, The Strike. Tonight they turn their attention to a more modern story - the sharp practices used by certain British tabloids to score front page stories. Maxine Peake stars as former editor of The Sun Rebekah Brooks, alongside Nigel Planer as Rupert Murdoch and Russell Tovey as Brooks' former lover Andy Coulson. Johnny Vegas, Alexei Sayle, Harry Enfield, James Buckley and John Sessions also star and look out for Stephen Mangan as Tony "I'm a rock star, now" Blair. Delicious stuff.

Patrick Henry Pearse was born in 27 Great Brunswick Street (Now Pearse Street) on November 10, 1879. He was a poet, teacher, barrister and writer, but to many he is seen as the embodiment of the 1916 Rising. It was Pearse who read the Proclamation on the steps of the GPO on Easter Monday, April 24, 1916. As President of the Provision Government, Pearse signed the surrender documents at the end of Easter week and was the first of the signatories to be executed on the morning of May 3, 1916. Tonight's episode of this excellent series looks at his life and legacy.
