The spirit of Manchester’s legendary Haçienda nightclub will brought back to life in Dublin this December by the musicians and DJ who shaped the Haçienda sound, with The RTÉ Concert Orchestra along for the ride.
Following a string of massively popular dates across the UK, Haçienda Classical will make their Irish debut at Dublin's 3Arena, promising a set-list packed orchestral takes on classics from the heyday of Manchester's acid house era, including club anthems like ‘Voodoo Ray’, ‘Good Life’ and ‘Ride On Time’.
The night will feature a very special appearance from the RTE Concert Orchestra, and additional guests including the AMC Gospel Choir, New Order's Peter Hook and Happy Mondays' Rowetta with Haçienda regular Graeme Park DJ'ing live during the concert.
"We are excited to be involved in this ambitious event," said Anthony Long, General Manager of The RTÉ Concert Orchestra, "bringing dancefloor tracks to life through the medium of the orchestra."
In recent months, the ever-versatile RCO have stolen the show with a scene-stealing performance with 2fm Jenny Greene at The Electric Picnic, and headlined RTÉ's Culture Night celebrations at Dublin Castle.
The Haçienda was the epicentre of the infamous 'Madchester' scene, dubbed by Newsweek Magazine as ‘the most famous club in the world’. The venue regularly featured live performances from iconic Manchester bands such as Oasis, The Smiths, New Order, The Stone Roses, Happy Mondays and more. Even Madonna made her UK live debut there.
Although the club closed its doors in 1997, its legacy on popular culture remains strong, with club nights, books, compilations and Michael Winterbottom’s acclaimed 2002 film 24 Hour Party People bringing the legend of the Haçienda to whole new generations.
