  • Extended description

Samantha Libreri reports for the RTÉ Six One News following the death of broadcaster Gerry Ryan. The report looks back on the broadcasters career and features clips from many of the television programmes he hosted and also shows him broadcasting on radio.

Gerry Ryan had worked in broadcasting for more than thirty years. He had presented one of Ireland's most popular weekday radio shows since 1988.

Born in Clontarf on Dublin's northside in 1956. He studied Law at Trinity College. His career took a very different path. After a stint in pirate and community radio he joined Radio 2 when it began in 1979. He soon became part of their main night-time line up with Dave Fanning and Mark Cagney.

In 1988 he moved to day time radio when the 'The Gerry Ryan Show' began.
