  • Extended description

Catholics fleeing from violence arrive south of the border in Dundalk, Co. Louth. The report shows people at the train station where women and nuns provide them with assistance in the form of food and clothing.

One man describes coming under fire from snipers while preparing to leave Belfast. He describes how women and children had to lie flat on the streets to avoid sniper fire as they attempted to leave. He claims that the police did nothing to help them. He also describes scenes where Catholic owned business premises and homes were in flames.

Area director for the Red Cross, Seamus Murphy, outlines facilities set up in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, to assist the refugees.

A woman from the Ardoyne describes the violence she witnessed. She says that "Where there were once homes there is nothing, only spare ground." She talks about how the police watched as their homes burnt to the ground. Neither interviewee wishes to be identified.
