Tom Keane is a 24 year old grammar school teacher and Chairman of Newry People's Democracy. Keane says that the responsibility for the troubles lies with the silent politicians who forced the ban on part of the route. Keane further argues that the police cordon acted as a direct provocation for people taking part in the march. Keane also says that it was a small fraction of marchers who were engaged in trouble at the march. The Newry People's Democracy will be holding a public meeting to have a post-mortem on the events.
