- Extended description
Mrs Angela McCrystal gives Proinsias Ó Conluain a personal account of her experience of the housing situation in Dungannon and the formation of the Homeless Citizens League.
Angela McCrystal recounts how many of her Protestant co-workers were given houses by the council as soon as they got married, while many Catholics waited ten years or more.
Mrs McCrystal has no confidence in Dungannon Urban Council. While they eventually gave her a house, she questions their motives and resents the fact that housing allocation largely takes place on the basis of religion. On the estate where she lives, there are only 2 Protestant households out of over 50. Angela talks about fighting to bridge the gap between Protestants and Catholics.
