Jimmy O'Brien recalls seeing tanks for the first time in 1916 at Beaumont Hamel and how seven hundred men were lost in the battle.

Jimmy O'Brien describes the battle to take the village of Beaumont Hamel which was little more than a pile of bricks. When they went over the top they were followed by a line of tanks. Theses huge cumbersome tanks often ran over the bodies of the dead or injured men who had fallen.

Jimmy O'Brien went into action with a thousand comrades in a battle that lasted for three days seven hundred of those comrades were killed.
