The 29-year-old had thumb surgery following the British and Irish Lions tour, but comes into the team to partner Alan O'Connor in the second row.
Irish internationals Robert Baloucoune, Stuart McCloskey and Eric O'Sullivan also return from injury for Ulster, with Baloucoune taking the place of the injured Will Addison, McCloskey starting in place of Stewart Moore, and O'Sullivan replacing Andrew Warwick who is named on the bench.
