Australia win Fed Cup play-off

Australia won the deciding doubles rubber to score a 3-2 victory over the Netherlands in their Fed Cup world group play-off tie today. Alicia Molik gave Australia a 2-1 advantage by beating Miriam Oremans 6-2 6-3 in the reverse singles before Kristie Boogert levelled the tie with a 7-5 5-7 6-1 win over Australia's Evie Dominikovic.

Molik and Rennae Stubbs then overpowered Olympic silver medallists Oremans and Boogert 7-6 7-6 in the doubles. Boogert dropped serve three times in the doubles in a crucial blow to Dutch hopes. The tie was split 1-1 after Saturday's opening singles when Molik beat Boogert 1-6 6-2 10-8 after Oremans had defeated Dominikovic 6-4 6-3.
