Gustavo Kuerten is bidding to become only the sixth player to win a third French Open crown when he clashes with Spain's Alex Corretja in Sunday's final. The Brazilian, who won the French title in 1997 and 2000, will be the first player since Sweden's Mats Wilander in 1988 to collect a trio of French titles.
If he does win, Kuerten will also become the first player since Sergi Bruguera to successfully defend the Roland Garros crown. Bruguera won the title in 1993 and 1994.
Most French Open men's singles titles: 6 - Bjorn Borg (Sweden) 1974-75-78-79-80-81; 4 - Henri Cochet (France) 1926-28-30-32; 3 - Rene Lacoste (France) 1925-27-29; Ivan Lendl (Czechoslovakia) 1984-86-87; Mats Wilander (Sweden) 1982-85-88
