'I'd still bring Dawson Devoy' for May camp in Murcia - Alan Cawley and Richie Towell on Ireland squad options

Dawson Devoy of Bohemians walks out to warm up before the SSE Airtricity Men's Premier Division match between Bohemians and Waterford at Dalymount Park in Dublin.
While Bohemians' form has dipped, Dawson Devoy has been one of the standout midfielders in the league this season

This time next week, Heimir Hallgrimsson is due to reveal his Republic of Ireland squad for next month's training camp in Murcia

It will be bookended by a friendly against Grenada on 16 May and marks an opportunity for the Boys in Green boss to run the rule over fringe players and potential options from the lower leagues.

Top flight players will not be available with the club seasons ongoing as is the case for those at sides involved in the Championship and League One play-offs.

Similarly, Hallgrimsson has already indicated that as much as he would have liked to, League of Ireland players are unlikely to be brought in given the camp coincides with a busy time in the domestic calendar.

However, Alan Cawley and Richie Towell would be keen for one or two to make the cut regardless, with Bohemians' Dawson Devoy heading the queue.

"I know you mentioned there's no League of Ireland lads, I'd still bring Dawson Devoy, I really would," Cawley, who has already been on record about Devoy's potential to make the jump up, said on this week's RTÉ Soccer Podcast, with Towell adding that "it would be good if he picked one or two".

"I've said that at the start of the season. Unfortunately at the moment, he's not getting as much of the limelight because Bohs are on a bad run. But he's still the best player they have.

"And I know even Alan Reynolds said last week that he wouldn't stand in his way if he was called up as well to go.

"If you're getting called up for your country, I think it's the biggest compliment you can have, especially when it's merited and warranted."

Hallgrimsson got to take a close look at Jack Moylan last week as the in-form ex-Shelbourne forward's Lincoln City side faced a Wycombe team featuring Jamie Mullins, formerly of Bohemians.

Moylan is a shoe-in to be included based on brilliant form in League One since the turn of the year.

However, Josh Honohan has yet to play for Lincoln since his move from Shamrock Rovers in January due to an ongoing injury, which almost certainly rules him out.

"He'll bounce back from this (injury) and he's going to bounce back it and he's going to be playing in the Championship," the Cork man's ex-Hoops team-mate Towell said.
