Shelbourne have confirmed the signing of midfielder Aodh Dervin from Longford Town.

A native of Longford, Dervin had spent his entire League of Ireland career with his home town club, helping them to gain promotion to the Premier Division via the play-offs as he won the club's player of the season award in 2020. They beat Shelbourne in that play-off final at Inchicore in November of last year.

The 22-year-old was a mainstay of De Town's team this year as they were relegated back down to the First Division.

"We are delighted to welcome Aodh to Tolka Park," said Shels manager Damien Duff.

"He has played a lot of games for one so young, so he is a brilliant addition to our midfield options. He is tenacious, technical and has an infectious appetite for the game. He will fit perfectly into the dressing room"

Dervin added: "Look when Damien Duff rings you, it’s a great feeling. It had been In the works for a while and it was the right time on all sides.

"I’m hungry to be involved in what is going to be a ruthless environment. I’m obsessed with hard work and will be fully focused on it now. It’s a great Christmas present to get it over the line. I’m all Shels now."

Shelbourne open their new campaign with a Dublin derby against St Patrick's Athletic at Tolka Park on 18 February.
