Sam Bone has signed for St Patrick's Athletic ahead of the 2021 League of Ireland Premier Division campaign.
The versatile former Shamrock Rovers player was confirmed by the Inchicore club earlier on Tuesday with Bone saying that a conversation with manager Stephen O'Donnell made the decision an easy one.
Bone, who can operate in the middle of the park or in defence, spent last season at Waterford, and departed at the end of last season believing that he was let down by the club.
"The gaffer [Stephen O'Donnell] spoke to me and told me his plans for the season and where he sees me fitting into the team," said Bone.
"It's a cliché, but I was really excited about what he had to say, and he seemed really keen to get me in.
"I’ve played against Stevie and also against his team last year. I see Pat’s as the club to make me a better player in the future and I’m looking forward to the season."
Manager O'Donnell added: "Sam is a player who I feel is ready to fill his potential. He's very versatile. He came over to Ireland as a central midfield player and found himself dropping back into centre-half at Waterford but he’s very adept at playing centre midfield, right-back or centre-back.
"He’s one deal I’m really happy to get done. His quality might fly under the radar a bit, and people will be very happy when they see the quality he possesses with both feet and with his passing of the ball."
