The FAI have confirmed that its investigation into a video shown to the Republic of Ireland squad before the recent friendly against England is closed and that they are satisfied with the explanations provided.

The Boys in Green were shown footage that was supposed to motivate them against the old enemy at Wembley. They went on to lose the game 3-0.

The FAI confirmed Thursday evening that an investigation would take place into the tone and content of the video, but the association has now said that the matter is "closed".

An FAI statement read: "Earlier this week issues regarding content shared with the senior Ireland men's team ahead of the recent friendly against England at Wembley Stadium were brought to the attention of the FAI.

"Following this development, the FAI decided it was appropriate to look into the matter.

"Since then the FAI has had discussions with a number of staff members and players, including the team manager, Stephen Kenny.

"The board has accepted the explanations provided and considers that the matter is now closed."

Kenny's attention will now turn to the World Cup qualifiers in March, with Ireland in pot three for the draw next month in Zurich.
