Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer declined to offer an update on the club's pursuit of Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes.
United are reportedly in talks with the Portuguese club over a January deal for the 25-year-old, but Solskjaer indicated on Tuesday nothing was imminent.
"I've got no transfer updates," he said. "If we get something we can tell you about we will, but we've got no news now."
However, Solskjaer indicated there was money available to spend if required, regardless of suggestions that United's status as England's richest club was "at risk".
Deloitte have ranked United as the third highest earners in the world, behind only Barcelona and Real Madrid, but warned they could fall next year given their failure to qualify for the Champions League.
"We know we've got the resources," Solskjaer said. "We've got the backing. If we need to go into the transfer market we're still up there so we're in a good place."
