Dundalk head coach Vinny Perth says that his side are ‘not fixed yet but we are on the right road’.

They recorded a 0-2 win away to Cork City to keep them top of the  SSE Airtricity League Premier Division table.

"We have to keep improving as a team and we are getting there, we are not fixed yet but we are on the right road," Perth told RTÉ Sport.

For the last five seasons Cork and Dundalk have been battling it out at the top of the table. Cork City claimed the title in 2017 while the Lilywhites were champions on four occasions between 2014 and 2018.

"Ourselves and Cork would have a fierce rivalry, and obviously the results haven’t been what they expect, so people said it’s an easier game for us this year as opposed to last year.

"We didn’t see it like that, we really respect Cork and I think they were up for it and they made it difficult for us at times, it was a good game and thankfully we scored the goals at the right times.

"We defended well, there were a lot of good blocks, Gary (Rogers) made one good save, I felt when we attacked we were very good and when they turned the ball over they were very open so I felt there were goals in us tonight.

"Cork are a real threat when they play us, when they play anyone. They have slightly changed their style and John Cotter has them playing football. It was a slightly different game to what we are used to. They had real quality in their side I think they will be good."

Dundalk scored goals in each half from, with Dean Jarvis and John Mountney finding the net to secure the three points.

"The game changed on big moments and players had to step up, I think it was Patrick McEleney’s turn, his vision for the second goal, everyone was shifted over to one side of the pitch but he played a wonderful ball to Sean Gannon.

"After that we were comfortable enough, we defended well, probably disappointed overall at times with our general play particularly after we went two nil up we could have went on and been a bit better."
