Ireland defender Matt Doherty has been voted the PFA Fans' Player of the Month for September, edging out Chelsea star Eden Hazard and Arsenal's Alexandre Lacazette to scoop the award.

Doherty secured victory for Wolves over the weekend against Crystal Palace, scoring the only goal of the game to help his side maintain their impressive start to the Premier League season.

His 56th minute winner has resulted in him taking 39% of the vote for the Player of the Month award, followed by Hazard who took second place with 26% of the votes and third-placed Lacazette on 18%.

Doherty is still waiting for a competitive appearance for Martin O'Neill's Republic of Ireland side but this individual accolade could help to change that as preparations continue for two upcoming Nations League fixtures against Denmark and Wales.

Wolves are now sitting in seventh place on the Premier League table after recording four wins and a draw last month.
