Kevin Kilbane does not think Declan Rice should be selected for the Republic of Ireland again after taking time out to deliberate his future.

The 19-year-old West Ham man has been excluded from the provisional squad named by Martin O'Neill today, after receiving contact from England regarding his international future.

Having previously declared "it's always been Ireland", Rice is now weighing up his future before being capped in a competitive international.

Kilbane - who turned down an England Under-18 call-up, always wanted to play for Ireland having been raised in Preston by Irish parents - is unimpressed by the situation that is similar recent will-he-won't-he sagas around Jack Grealish and Liam Kelly.

"I’d rather be ranked 150th in the world and never qualify again than have someone who has played, but needs time to THINK whether they should play for us again. Well done to MON for transparency," wrote Kilbane on Twitter.
