Double winners Dundalk may have to move out of Oriel Park due to a dispute with former owner Gerry Matthews.
Matthews, who left the Lilywhites in 2012, has informed the FAI that he, and not the club, retains the lease on the ground as his frustration over a failure to reach a financial agreement with the new owners reaches boiling point, according to the Irish Times.
Since clubs must be able to guarantee the availability of their home ground for all games to be played during a league season, Dundalk may not be able to get a Premier Division license if Oriel Park is listed as their home.
“I spent over a million apart from what went into the YDC and I understand that most of it is gone, I’m not getting it back. But there are people owed money here and I feel the club should give me some of what it owes me,” Matthews says.
Stephen Kenny's men swaggered to a memorable league and FAI Cup success last season, blowing their rivals away with a slick, attractive brand of football.
They were narrowly beaten by BATE Borisov in the second qualifying round of the Champions League last July.
