Republic of Ireland defender Sean St Ledger has reportedly been released by Orlando City after a "serious breach of club policy".

The former Ipswich, Leicester and Preston man made the move to the States in March after a successful trial and had been performing well for the Lions, keeping them in the hunt for a play-off spot.

However, the club announced to local media today that St Ledger would be leaving the club due to a disciplinary breach.

Orlando signed Real Madrid academy defender David Mateos midweek, and with a limited amount of international spot in the MLS outfit's squad, 30-year-old St Ledger was facing a battle to keep his place.

St Ledger has been capped 37 times for Ireland but has slipped down the pecking order during Martin O’Neill’s tenure. He scored Ireland’s only goal at Euro 2012, a diving header against Croatia, and was a regular under Giovanni Trapattoni.

He made the move to Orlando after being let go by Ipswich Town last December.
