Watch Barcelona v Werder Bremen on Tuesday 5 December and Man United v Benfica on Wednesday 6 December live on www.rte.ie and RTÉ Two.

We are set for a gripping conclusion to Group A of the UEFA Champions League with Barcelona and Werder Bremen going head to head for the one remaining place in the last 16. Chelsea have already progressed even though they lost in Germany a fortnight ago.

It will be a fascinating contest on Tuesday night and with Barca needing to win while Bremen need only a draw to make it through at the expense of the reigning champions.

The holders have never failed to make it out of the group and that is a piece of history that the Spanish giants will not want.

They are favourites to go through because they have home advantage but I am not sure if they will do it.

Bremen are a very good side - the second most successful in German domestic football when you exclude Bayern Munich. They rode their luck at times in their victory over Chelsea but they still managed to hang on. Miroslav Klose will be key to their chances on Tuesday.

The goals have not been flowing for Klose since the World Cup but he has the quality to really hurt the home side. They are, as you would expect from a German side, very well organised and are a real threat from set-pieces as Chelsea found to their cost in the Veserstadion.

Chelsea will not be entirely displeased if Barcelona are knocked out when you factor in the recent history between the two clubs.

Barcelona have had a real sticky spell in this group and their 2-0 win at Levski Sofia brought to an end a three-game sequence without a victory. They have also had their troubles in the Spanish League but we will find out just how good they are when they face up to Bremen this week.

If the Germans play for the draw they need to qualify they will get beaten. Barca need to win but the longer the match goes without a goal, the more anxious the home supporters will become. It will be a great night and I am still not sure if I will back the favourites to get out of the group along with Chelsea.

Manchester United also have it all to do against Benfica on Wednesday night if they are to join Celtic in the knock-out rounds of this competition.

I really did not see this situation coming with United. They did not play well in their first three matches but they won all of them and now, after back-to-back defeats, they are sweating on qualification again.

This time last year they went to Lisbon needing to win to advance but they did not do that and they have to win again this week. It would be a total disaster for them if they do not make it but anything can happen.

The pressure will be on them to score the first goal and just as in Spain on Tuesday; the crowd could go against the home team if they fail to make an early breakthrough.

Benfica are not good travellers but they are in with a real chance of qualifying. I would just about fancy United to win on the night.
