Garry O'Connor's father claims it is not worth his son travelling from Russia to sit on the bench for Scotland.
The Lokomotive Moscow striker was axed for the Scots' trip to Ukraine after failing to return to the squad following Saturday's 1-0 win over France at Hampden.
The former Hibernian player played only 18 minutes as a second-half substitute against the French and would have been unlikely to feature in Walter Smith's starting X1 for the 2008 Euro qualifier in Kiev.
O'Connor has yet to offer an explanation to Smith but his dad, Lawrence O'Connor, believes his son should concentrate on his club career where he is reportedly earning £16,000 a week.
Speaking to the Scottish Sun, he said: 'Garry's spending all this time travelling and what does he get for it? Ten minutes on the pitch?
'There aren't many players who would do the travelling for that. And he doesn't get paid for Scotland.
'I'm just interested in him sticking to his game in Moscow.
'Garry's as good as the best of them in Scotland but he needs to make as much money as he can.
'It's all right living here if you want to play for Scotland but if you are travelling all over the world for 10 minutes of football - I wouldn't do it.
'It's up to Garry to say why he didn't show up on Sunday - I don't know.'
