Manchester United midfielder John O'Shea has said that the team owes a huge debt to fans after the humiliating 4-1 defeat to Middlesbrough at the weekend.

O'Shea, who was one of the six players to be reportedly lambasted by Roy Keane as being not good enough for the club, said tomorrow's Champions League group D encounter against Lille would be the perfect opportunity.

"We'll be looking to rectify what happened on Saturday tomorrow night. We owe it to the fans and everbody involved with the club," said O'Shea.

The Irish international said that since their Middlesbrough reverse the whole United team has quickly had to learn what it is like to face a fans' backlash.

"It's part and parcel of being at a big club like Manchester United, but you just have to take it on the chin and get on with it."

One of the more considered members of the current United squad, O'Shea knows his display was not up to the standard required and he revealed the depth of his weekend misery.

"Every player has their own personal pride and we were hurt after Saturday's game," he said. "Since I got into the first team four seasons ago, there has always been so much criticism of certain players, the team and individuals.

"But you just have to take it because it is part of being at such a
successful club. We are just thankful we have an immediate chance to rectify the situation."
