John O'Shea has extended his contract at Manchester United, and will now be at Old Trafford until 2009.
The extension will have softened the blow of Ireland not making it to the World Cup finals in 2006, having drawn 0-0 with Switzerland in Lansdowne Road on Wednesday.
O'Shea has played regularly with United this season has he has filled in across the back four for the injured Gabriel Heinze and Gary Neville.
