Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso will be out of action for up to six weeks after breaking his ankle during their 1-0 defeat to English Premiership leaders Chelsea.
The 23-year-old Spaniard limped off in the first half after a strong tackle by Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard, who was booked for the offence.
Alonso joins Harry Kewell, Milan Baros and long-term injurys Vladimir Smicer and Djibril Cisse on Liverpool’s ever-increasing injured list.
