Charlton boss Alan Curbishley today discounted the prospect of Scott Parker returning to The Valley and urged the Chelsea midfielder to wait for his chance to shine at Stamford Bridge.

Parker's lack of first-team opportunities under Jose Mourinho has prompted speculation Curbishley might be ready to take the England international back to south-east London when the transfer window opens.

But the Addicks manager believes the idea is a non-starter and told Parker, who joined Chelsea for £10million in January, to show patience.

"I don't know if Scott could come back to us now - he is a Chelsea player," Curbishley told BBC Radio Five Live's Sportsweek programme. "The situation there can change so quickly. Mourinho has said he is happy with his current squad so Scott is not totally out of the picture.

"Just one injury and he will get his chance. Once that comes he will establish himself. Joining Chelsea was the move he craved for and he got it, but you have to take the rough with the smooth."
