Raul out of Old Trafford clash

Manchester United have been handed a boost ahead of their Champions League clash with Real Madrid will be without the services of Raul for their big showdown on Wednesday.

The Spanish striker was forced to undergo emergency surgery for appendicitis, and will now not travel to Old Trafford for the second leg clash. Raul tormented the Manchester United defence in the first leg, two weeks ago, when he scored twice in Real's 3-1 victory.

However, Real Madrid coach Vicente Del Bosque insisted that Raul's absence would not affect his side's preparations. "It's a surprise for sure, but we are all professionals and not going to start crying," he said. "Raul's absence is a setback for sure, he's a player who can add something in any situation, but we've got a strong squad and can cover for him."

Real skipper Fernando Hierro believes that Raul's absence could strengthen the resolves of his teammates. "We'll be playing for him now. It's a pity he'll be out but that's life. As a professional football player there are always situations you can't control," he insisted.
