Veron hopes to inspire United to Euro glory

Juan Sebastian Veron has firmly set his sights on returning for Manchester United in time for their crunch Champions League second leg against Real Madrid on April 23.

The Argentinean ace was forced to sit out United's 3-1 mauling at the Bernabeu on Tuesday, but he insists that he will be back for the return leg and even hopes that he can inspire United to victory.

The 28-year-old said, "I'm in Rome to have treatment because I'm determined to be ready for when Real arrive. Real Madrid might think it is over but it's not. I promise our fans that we'll still be in the final," he said, being perhaps slightly over confidant.

"The contest is not finished because every man in our squad knows the final is fixed at Old Trafford and we must be there at any cost. There is no doubt that we can win 2-0 and put Real Madrid out of the tournament even though they are the European champions and we will be without suspended Paul Scholes and Gary Neville," the midfielder added.

"Real were very good on the night but nobody should be fooled into thinking we are beaten. Ruud van Nistelrooy's goal was vital for us. If he hadn't scored and it had finished 3-0 to Madrid, then we would have faced a very tough job."

While Veron has struggled at times in the Premiership, the midfielder has played a huge part in United's European campaign and should he return for the second leg, it would be a huge boost for Alex Ferguson's men.
