Eriksson to experiment against Aussies

Sven-Goran Eriksson intends to play virtually two different teams during nextweek's friendly against Australia at Upton Park. The starting line-up will be his virtual first-choice side, although Steven Gerrard is ruled out by a domestic ban, while Emile Heskey is out injured and David Seaman has been rested.

The second team is designed to be an experimental under-26 side, mainly comprising players for the future rather than Eriksson's normal substitutes. Barring any further injuries or withdrawals from the squad before Wednesdaynight's game, this is how the two teams could potentially look:

First half: James; G Neville, A Cole, Campbell, Ferdinand; Beckham, Scholes, Lampard, Dyer; Owen, Vassell (or Beattie).

Second half: Robinson; Mills, Konchesky, Brown, King; Jenas, Murphy, J Cole (or Davis), Hargreaves; Rooney, Beattie (or Vassell).

Alternatives in squad: R Wright, Upson, Parker, Jeffers.
