City sign Danish defender Mikkel Bischoff

Manchester City boss Kevin Keegan has made another close-season signing after capturing young Danish defender Mikkel Bischoff from AB Copenhagen. City's representatives are still negotiating to bring Newcastle's French defender Sylvain Distin to Maine Road, but Denmark Under-20 international Bischoff has signed a four-year deal for a fee of £750,000.

Bischoff is the third Dane to team up with Keegan's newly-promoted side, joining Niclas Jensen and Peter Schmeichel in the City squad.

"Mikkel came very highly recommended to us and once Graham Carr and Arthur Cox had checked with their contacts we had to move swiftly," director of football Dennis Tueart told the club's official website. "Other Premiership clubs were interested in the lad, who is essentially a right-sided central defender but who is equally at home with his left foot. He will find it difficult to win an immediate place in the side, but we have shown what we think of him by agreeing a four-year deal and now it is up to him."
