Wolves keep up the pressure

Wolves kept up their push for a promotion place with a narrow 1-0 victory over Wimbledon at Molineux this afternoon. The result leaves Wolves just a point behind second-placed West Brom in the race for automatic promotion to the Permiership.

Dave Jones' side went ahead after 23 minutes when Nathan Blake planted a header past Kelvin Davis in the Wimbledon net. Neal Ardley almost equalised immediately for Wimbledon but Michael Oakes pushed his 20-yard shot around the post. The second half saw Wolves push for the second goal which would give them some breathing space but although it failed to come, the home side hung on for a vital victory. Wolves must now win their last game and hope West Brom lose or draw to ensure automatic promotion to the top flight.
