Baggies keep up promotion push

West Brom kept up their promotion push today with a slender 1-0 victory over Bradford. The Baggies netted a vital three points with a last-minute penalty from Igor Balis after Bob Taylor was hauled down. The result means West Brom stay four points ahead of third-placed Wolves who play tomorrow.

Elsewhere, Norwich boosted their hopes of a play-off place with a 2-0 victory over Barnsley. David Nielsen and Paul McVeigh scored the goals for the Canaries to force a result which sends Barnsley crashing into Division Two. Burnley's hopes of a play-off place took a blow when they lost 3-1 to lowly Grimsby, Crystal Palace defeated Preston 2-0, while Crewe ensured their first division status with a 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest.

Earlier today, Division One champions Manchester City continued their impressive march towards the Premiership with a 3-1 victory over Gillingham.
