Man City stretch lead in Nationwide League

Manchester City have extended their lead at the top of the Nationwide Division One with a slender 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Maine Road today. Second-placed Wolves failed to keep up the pressure on Kevin Keegan’s men, going down 1-0 at home to Grimsby.

Kevin Horlock was the hero for City when he headed past Matt Clarke in the Palace goal after only ten minutes. The Maine Road side never looked like adding to their lead but they restricted Trevor Francis’ men to only two shots for the entire 90 minutes. Jon Macken should have put the result beyond doubt with five minutes to go, but despite missing the target with a close-range header, City held on for another three points.

Keegan’s side are now five points ahead of Wolves at the top of the table.
