City close gap on leaders Wolves

Manchester City eased to a comfortable 4-2 victory over Coventry City at Maine Road on Sunday to close the gap on English first division leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers. Kevin Keegan's side went ahead through an early Darren Huckerby goal against his former club and, although Coventry's Lee Mills equalised soon afterwards, Danny Tiatto and Shaun Wright-Phillips put City 3-1 ahead at halftime.

Wright-Phillips helped himself to another 19 minutes from time with a delightful chip before Mills's second goal provided Coventry with a late consolation. Manchester City, who have two games in hand, moved to within five points of Wolves at the top of the standings, while Coventry stayed sixth.
