Kelly's contract at Motherwell terminated

Former Republic of Ireland international David Kelly has had his one-year contract at Motherwell terminated after a dressing-room row with manager Eric Black. According to the club, the parting was mutual. Kelly, 36, passed up the offer of a coaching post at Sheffield United to continue his playing career with Motherwell in the summer.

"A compromise agreement has resulted from a meeting held (yesterday) prior to the convening of a disciplinary hearing," a club statement read. "Mr David Kelly's contract as a player with Motherwell Football Club has been terminated by mutual consent."

The 36-year-old joined the Steelmen after a career with Walsall, West Ham, Leicester, Newcastle, Wolves, Sunderland, Tranmere and Sheffield United.
