Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane says he intends to begin contract talks with the club early in the new year. Reports had suggested that Keane was disgruntled at Old Trafford but the Republic of Ireland international claims he has never been happier at United and wants to commit his future to the club by signing a new deal.
Michael Kennedy, Keane’s agent, told the Manchester Evening News that the club is ready to open negotiations with the player. “United have indicated that they would like to sit down and talk to us. We’re happy to meet them at any time and discuss a new contract, but we hope that talks will begin in the new year. We’ll sit down with the club then,” said Kennedy, before adding, “it will all depend on the terms offered, but Roy wants to stay. Manchester United is his club”.
Keane signed a deal two years ago which made him United’s highest paid player at the time. The £52,000 a week deal negotiated then has since been eclipsed by the likes of Juan Sebastian Veron, so Keane will be expecting improved terms when the parties start negotiations in the new year.
