Shearer protests against sending off

Sent off Newcastle striker Alan Shearer has denied that he elbowed Charlton's Jon Fortune. Fortune fell to the ground after tangling with Shearer, leading to the former England captain's dismissal for violent conduct three minutes from the end of the 1-1 draw. Shearer insists that he knows he did not make contact.

"The referee hasn't made a mistake. He did nothing, but a linesman called him over and he said I'd used my elbow in his Fortune's face. That is totally wrong. I haven't seen the incident but I don't need to see it. I would ask the referee kindly and honestly to look at the decision and if he thinks I deliberately used my elbow I will serve my suspension," said Shearer.
