Fulham manager Jean Tigana is set to smash the club's transfer record when he signs yet another Frenchman for the newly promoted side tomorrow. The Cottagers have reportedly agreed a club record fee of £13million for Lyon striker Steve Marlet, who is hoped to form a devastating partnership with fellow French star Louis Saha.
Marlet is currently in England but has yet to agree personal terms, but it is hoped that the London club will tie up the deal in the next 24 hours, subject to Marlet passing a medical. Marlet should finalise the move today before heading off to Chile where he hopes to win his fifth cap for his country in a friendly this weekend. The striker has scored once in four appearances for France after coming to prominence with Lyon last season, forming an exciting partnership with Brazilian Sonny Anderson as the French club went so close to reaching the last eight of the Champions League.
Marlet only joined last season's French runners-up 12 months ago for a fee of £3.7million having spent four years previously at Auxerre. Former Lyon team-mate Steed Malbranque is already at Craven Cottage and Marlet, who struck 17 goals last term, will join compatriot Louis Saha in Fulham's forward line.
