Euro 2000: Figo to stay at Barca

Luis Figo has ended speculation about his future ahead of Portugal's opening match against England. Lazio and Manchester United have both been linked with moves for the Barcelona midfielder, but Figo said, “I have a contract with Barcelona and I want to play for them next season.”

Figo told the Barcelona Daily Sport that he was prepared to turn down Lazio's offer to double the wages he earns at the Catalan club. “I don't think about how much money I'm earning. It doesn't bother me, I don't even care about it. On the contrary, I'm the one who feels I am in debt to Barcelona for all they have given me,” he said.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson had expressed an interest in Figo, Chelsea's tormentor in last season's Champions League, but the club was put off by Barca's asking price.
