Mark Allen got the better of Cao Yupeng to reach the third round of the Welsh Open but it was the end of the road for both Ken Doherty and David Morris.

Allen prevailed on a 4-3 scoreline against his Chinese opponent, winning the final frame 60-19, after a making a break of 50. In the opening frame of the match, the Irishman recorded a break of 133.

4-3 was also the score as the 1997 World Champion, Doherty lost out to Wales' Matthew Stevens.

A break of 52 proved vital in the final frame for Stevens, who survived a comeback from the Dubliner who tied the match after losing the first three frames.

Kilkenny's David Morris was at the wrong end of a 4-0 scoreline in his second round encounter against Neil Robertson.
