Fergal O'Brien has missed out on a place in next month’s world championships in Sheffield after losing to Gary Wilkinson in his final qualifier. O'Brien who dropped out of the top 16 at the end of last season was narrowly beaten 10-8 by Wilkinson.
There was also heartache for Northern Ireland's Paddy Wallace who went down 10-6 to Ali Carter. But Gerard Greene has made it through after he scored a 10-3 win over Anthony Hamilton.
And former champion John Parrott will make his 20th appearance after a 10-8 win over Robin Hull.
