Caelan Doris was well enough to be presented with his first cap after Ireland's 19-12 win over Scotland despite suffering a head injury in the opening moments of the match.

The Leinster number 8 was helped off the field after a worrying looking clash but was in good spirits afterwards, according to head coach Andy Farrell.

The 21-year-old faces a race against time to be fit for next week's Guinness Six Nations match against Wales.

"He's up and talking, he's there with his family now in the changing room," said Farrell.

"We've just presented a cap to him and he's in fine spirits. It was unfortunate for him, it was just an accident, head-on-head.

"He had a great steal early doors. He'll lick his wounds and he'll be back."

Centre Garry Ringrose was withdrawn at half-time with a hand injury and will have a "scan or an x-ray" to determine the extent of the damage.

Dave Kilcoyne only lasted a minute on the field before he was withdrawn for a Head Injury Assessment but failed that and did not return.

"Again, he's in fine spirits in the dressing room, hopefully those guys will be fine moving forward," added Farrell.

Fellow prop Tadhg Furlong, who played almost the entire game, was "outstanding" said Farrell.

"His calves were tightening up, he began to feel them a little bit."

Ireland play Wales next Saturday at the Aviva at 2.15pm.
