Ireland’s Padraig Harrington has dismissed speculation that he may miss this month’s Ryder Cup match as “rubbish”, however, his European team-mate Colin Montgomerie remains a doubt for the event.
The Dubliner will not know the results of a scan on his painful ankle until later this week, but said: “It's all rubbish. I won't be missing the Ryder Cup because of my ankle - or anything else. I've played the last two weeks on it, and the ankle can only get better between now and The Belfry."
Harrington has missed this week's Omega European Masters in Crans-sur-Sierre, Switzerland to work with his coach, as well as undergo the scan. He believes the ankle pain, which manifested itself again at the end of the Dutch Open five weeks ago, is an old ligament injury.
Meanwhile, Colin Montgomerie is likely to make a decision on his Ryder Cup participation by the end of the week. Monty’s manager Guy Kinnings said the injury-plagued Scot would wait as long as possible before making up his mind whether to enter next week's German Masters, the Amex Championship in Ireland and the Ryder Cup at the end of the month. Montgomerie pulled out of the NEC Invitational in Seattle during the second round last month with a recurrence of the back injury which has troubled him all year.
