George North has signed a new two year contract to remain in Wales with the Ospreys until the summer of 2023.

The 29-year-old wing and centre joined the Ospreys in 2018 following five years at the Northampton Saints.

His new deal is a dual-contract between the Ospreys and the Welsh Rugby Union, as the union looks to retain as many international talent as possible at the regions.

However, it may be some time before the 102-cap star features in the United Rugby Championship, with North currently sidelined following a cruciate ligament injury in April.

"It's an honour to play for Wales and something I never take for granted, my focus now is to get back fit and playing again," said North.

"I have enjoyed my first few years here at the Ospreys so I'm chuffed to be extending my time here in Wales.

"The club are looking to the future and I'm looking forward to playing my role in helping the club to push on this year.

UNITED RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP: HOW IT WORKS

North became the youngest ever male player to reach 100 caps for their country when he lined out for Wales in their Six Nations win against England in February, a record which had been held previously by Australia's Michael Hooper.

North has played 102 times for Wales, as well as three Test matches for the British and Irish Lions, having toured in 2013 and 2017.

Thus far in his international career he has played at three Rugby World Cups, winning four Six Nations titles, two of which were Grand Slams.
